Why can I not edit this baluster family?

This is what I see when I try to edit a railing baluster family.

The railing is from the Railing_Samples.rvt file that has been around for quite a while. It's the panel that I want to edit

Just an update to the world - turns out that the possible reason for the inability to edit the family was because it had been created in Revit 9.0. I googled the name of the family, downloaded it from http://revit.autodesk.com/library/archive9/html/Revit%209.0%20Library/US%20Library/Families/Baluster..., saved it to 2018 and loaded it into my project and railing - voila! It is now wonderful!
