White as Grey in Elevation

So I have a drywall material and in elevation (shaded) it shows as true white.

When I duplicate that EXACT material OR create a NEW material with the EXACT properties, it shows as a shaded grey.

I can even place that duplicated material on the same wall family and it turns grey.

I wish it to be white.

Now I can change the sun setting to 100% and make everything white however it does not answer the question as why one material is not effected by sun setting and one is, when the ONLY difference is the name. What is soooo magical about my drywall material that it stays white in shaded mode???

There are no filters in my view.

The Gyp Board shows white regardless of sun setting. .....

Edit: maybe you can copy paste the wall and the door with the two materials to a new file and upload it.

I am not sure.  If I set a material Shading color = White then it shows White on the shaded Elevation.  Have you tried to remove the surface pattern instead of set it to solid white?

Maybe I'm not following.  This issue concerns material of one type. Correct? And, that material's Graphic's properties are: surface pattern 'color' = white, and surface pattern 'pattern' = solid. Correct? Yet, when you apply this material as paint to a wall surface (in shaded view), it shows the color as gray, and the pattern as solid. Correct? If so, I believe you're getting the right results if you're in shaded mode. Is it white in consistent color mode? It should be. 

edit...I assumed we were talking 3D view since you were using shaded mode. This is happening in Elevation View?

two material types with the SAME EXACT properties.

Putting it in consistent colours does help.

This is a true elevation or section view.

I am not using paint. It is the actual material in the family.

When I use GYP Board family it shows as white in elevation regardless of shading or shadows or render type.

When I duplicate or create a new material is shades it. Will not show as white.

Somehow my ONE material (gyp board) magically ignores shadows and shades turning it grey.

This is happening even within the family itself! With both materials in the family - one is grey one is white.

Thanks for that explanation. It's crystal clear now...and mind-boggling -- especially the part about it happening in a family too. I'm going to gnaw on this one a bit.
