Which version(year) of Revit is most common?

Hello everyone!

I work for a lighting manufacturer and I'm creating Revit family files to put on our website. Which version of Revit (which year) would be best to use? It seems like a lot of people are on 2017 or 2016. Is there anyone out there who is using an older version than that? If I create my family files in an older version like 2014 for example, would that cause any problems for people who are using 2016 and newer?

If anyone out there has some insight on this I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

earlier the better.  i.e. if you create families in '17, those using '16 or earlier are not able to utilize them.

earliest we have is '15.
