Which Revit paper size settings should be used?

Hi, 

Could you please give me some advice or help me figure out Print to PDF settings.

I have two questions concerning to create PDFs files via Microsoft Print to PDF. 

To my understanding Print to PDF with Revit does not create PDF files for bigger paper sizes(A0,A1, E,D,). The only way is by creating the desired paper sizes in: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers. The other way I guess is with Add-ins?

1. My first question is, once I have the PDF file, if the paper size I created does not affect the file every time I print it in a Plotter store. I only have to choose the paper size on the plotter? And should it print exactly as the paper size I created? I'm a little lost there. Or as long as the paper size I created is roughly equal to that of the plotter, would that be fine?
2. My second concern is when I open the Print window on Revit I noticed that I can reach out the paper sizes from properties button and in Print Setup as well. What is the difference between those options? should both have to match or which one is taken into consideration when generating the PDF File of the desired Sheet(s).

The paper sizes you show in the top screenshot, the setup page are the page sizes that are available for that particular printer within Revit. So each printer can have a different list of sizes. This is the page size setting you choose to print your Revit documents/drawings to.

The one under properties means that you basically leave Revit and go to the windows settings for the printer itself. Would be the same when you are in windows and open the printer settings and go to the preferences page of the printer. These printer settings would meant that they will be shared between all software on your computer.

If you can make new pages sizes will depend on the printer you use. It is dependent on the maker of the printer if these possibilities are there. So check the help of that particular (PDF) printer. Most PDF printers have at least something like the Postscript Custom Page Size.

This can be used to print to a custom size paper. However this then means you only can have one. So if you have to change between custom paper sizes you have to modify these settings with each change.

but apparently there is no way to create the paper sizes from the properties menu as it seems to be grayed out or no options are visible.  that operation must be done in control panel correct?

This outlines the process required to add custom page sizes to Microsoft Print to PDF. It's a bit of a tricky process and may require some trial & error. I've attached my .gdp file, just change the file extension from .txt to .gdp and use it when following the instructions above. We've used this at my firm for about 2 years now without issue.
