Wheel mouse does not perform pan functions in Revit 2018

Hello,

This only happened to me in the last 2 hours and can't find a solution.

The wheel on my Logitech M305 Wireless mouse won't let me pan in the 3D mode, all I'm getting when I press the shift button to pan with the mouse is a minus sign above the cursor. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the mouse and nothing changed. Went and got a mouse which is a plug in one with a wheel as well and that won't pan either. Revit really is getiing on my **** lately, has anyone got any sort of an inkling as to what could be causing this?

I'm in Revit Architecture 2018

Windows 8

Any bit of info will be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance,

Tomas

Hi @Darragh98

Can you confirm if you have the latest updates for your Revit version? Please install these from your Autodesk Desktop App.

If you have a multiple monitor setup, please disable and try if this happens with the primary monitor.

Does this happen only with Revit 2018 or any other version?

Also, check if you have the latest drivers loaded for your Logitech M305 Wireless mouse

Check the article: MY M305 MOUSE IS NOT WORKING

Let me know if any of this helps resolve your issue.

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards,

Hi Viveka,

Only have the one monitor and it's 2018.2, the latest update. The mouse and keyboard are working good, as I said, I changed mouse to a hardwired one and still the same so it's not the mouse by the looks of it. I have 2018 since last year and it only happened this morning.

And I updated the drivers to which the response was that they were all up to date.

I use the wheel button only without the shift key for panning in any view type. Shift + MMB does 3D orbit.

Maybe the MMB has been disabled in the mouse settings.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

My apologies for the wording. It won't pan by just pressing the MMB and it won't orbit in 3D when pressing both shift and MMB. The settings for the wheel in the mouse/control panel is only for vertical scrolling and horizontal scrolling. They dont look affected in any way and why stop working now all of a sudden?

Open the Logitech mouse software and change the wheel pressing function to Middle Button.  It may be inadvertently changed to Universal Scroll or something like that.

Hi @Darragh98

Good to note that you have all the updates installed.

Did you adjust your screen properties by any chance?

Can you check your mouse properties in control panel and see if its set to windows default?

Can you try the below for me?

  • Set "Ctrl+A" to 'Pan active view'
  • open sheet view and active the view
  • type 'Ctrl+A', you can move the active view now.

PAN settings

PAN settingsPAN settings

Let me know if that resolves your issue.

Regards,

What you show is the Windows mouse properties, not Logitech mouse software.

That's what I'm getting on any search for either mouse or Logitech. This PC is new to me, as in new to me not brand new. The keyboard and mouse are from the old PC but I just plugged in the hub and they worked away. That was a few weeks ago and I'm using Revit sporadically since, with the panning and orbiting working grand. I found it strange that I can't pull up any Logitech at all on the PC. Could that be it maybe?

But I tried another mouse this morning and it done all bar the pan and orbit.

Please point out something dopey I'm doing!

Show us a screenshot of the "Button" for the mouse properties. That is likely where you bad mapping resides.

Also, check if the Microsoft mouse center is taking over. what is the reaction of pressing the middle mouse button? Nothing? Does it "Zoom all"?

I've used several Logitech mouses without the Logitech software throughout the years. So, yeah, it is possible that the software is not installed.

It doesn't zoom all, only in and out when I scroll. Sending you pics of properties.

Normally if you don't have the software installed then pressing the wheel acting as a middle button as per Windows default, in other words, no issues.  If the the software is installed, it may switch the action to some scrolling function that affect Pan and Orbit in Autodesk programs.

You can uninstall the software to restore the middle button function but since you are not certain if the software is installed, I would suggest download it, install it, and modify the wheel pressing to middle button.

Hi @Darragh98

If you did a recent windows upgrade, then there is a chance that a faulty configured HID-compliant mouse drivers may cause computer problems like HID-compliant mouse not working, Windows 100% disk usageno mouse pointer, etc.

Let me know if any of the above information helps.

I installed it and put middle button to task. It doesnt do much in the way of pan and orbit though. Would an overall restart of PC help?
