What are these icons called (in 3d view that sometimes show up when some elements are picked)

I vaguely remember that these icons could be hidden, which I 'm hoping would increase the performance of the model ever so slightly, but I don't know what they are called and so how to find documentation to hide them:

they show up for example when picking a pinned element or an element that is part of a group.
