Walls structural usage

Hi everyone!

I'd like to create a wall type, which has the structural usage automatically set to "shear" (or "bearing", or both, doesnt really matter) for every instance I draw. Is this possible?

I know i maybe could get around this by quickly selecting the walls, and then set their usage to "shear" with one click, but i'd just like to make this thing "foolproof", so whenever soemone adds a new wall with this type, he/she doesnt have to set the usage to "shear" . It can be forgotten easily.

Thanks!

There is not a way to do this "automatically", but you could come up with a naming strategy for shear wall families and then use a VG filter to "flag" a wall in a color if the shear setting did not get set right.  The filter could be applied to views at the template level so it would kind of always be "on". This would not be completely foolproof but could help.

How about add a prefix indicating the structural usage to the wall type names?

That is pretty much what I suggested with the added part about creating a VG filter to "check" if the structural use of the wall is set to "shear". Unfortunately, there is no way to pre-populate the "Structural Usage" parameter of a wall with a specified value like the OP wanted to do, so the best you can do is "highlight" one that is not set as a QA/QC check.

Yes.  I skimmed pass your reply and skipped the naming part.  Using filters is what we do to color code check wall fire rating.
