Hi everyone,
A quick question about upgrading families, as this is not quite clear to me.
If I load an old version family into a newer version Revit project, when the family is upgraded in the project, is the original file upgraded or only a loaded copy of the original file upgraded? I.e. If I save the project with the loaded and upgraded old family, does this also save the original family as the newer upgraded version? Or is it only when directly opening a family file (not loading it into a project) in a newer version which is then upgraded and saved, that the original file will be saved as the new version?
Some context for more clarity, I have families saved as older versions, but I want to use them in a newer version of Revit without having the original files upgraded in case I'd like to use them in an old version again. How should I do this? Is it safe simply to load them into a project without the original file being modified, or will the original files be modified when the project is saved and therefore I need to create copies before loading them into a newer version Revit project?
I hope this makes sense. This issue isn't clear to me from Auutodesk's explanations. Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Ben
