Walls & hatch patterns

Hello all,

I am having problems with walls & hatch patterns.  I am confused as to why this is so difficult.  I have two walls adjacent to each other, one is a brick wainscot & the other is full height brick.

On the end of the wall the hatch pattern does not show -on either end of the full height wall – why not?  Is it because it butting up to the wainscot wall?  Why is it solid then, no hatch.

How do you make this look correctly?  It does in realistic visual style....

Also, I get a line showing at the coursing where the two walls abutting one another - I have the dimensions for the brick coursing correct (join doesn't work).....why?

I guess I'm frustrated as to why this is so difficult - what are others doing that I'm not Smiley Frustrated

Are these simple overlooked things, so what do I check or do if not?

If someone wants this file, I'll post it for you....

Thanks in advance…..

I think you're problem lies in the wall joins.
Go to modify, click on wall joins, select the wall connections, change the setting.
Another reason would be join order. Go to modify, select the join drop down, pick switch join order, select the two walls.

without knowing the structure properties of the wall its hard to tell why the finish isnt returning around the reveal. I will guess tho, if you have a look at the wall type properties, where it has Wrapping at Ends and Wrapping at Inserts, what are they set too...if you change them do you get a different result?

Can you post a screenshot of the wall type properties?

Regards,

Paul.

Hi,

Check your wrapping properties in the type dialog box and set the wrapping at ends to either exterior or interior.

With regards to hatch patterns, follow AJA14's instructions and look also look at the Display Settings when you apply the wall joins commands.

AJA14,

Thanks for the response...

I have tried the switch join order - didn't work...

I'm not sure what you mean by selecting the wall connection & changing the settings...

Hi. The guys gave you a good idea about wrapping. Anyways, what I meant is that if you click on wall joins in the modify tab and select the wall intersection it allows you to choose between miter, butt and square off and to choose your primary wall. However, I don't think this is your case. A good idea would be to post your revit file.

You can also use the align command to align the patterns so that it makes sense. If you get a line displaying or disappearing then it could be your graphics card not refreshing your screen. That's what happened to me.

So split, then align the pattern in a elevation or section and check the results.

When I have two brick walls lined up end to end like that, I do notice that the hatch pattern spacing is a little off where they meet, but I don't get an actual line all along the join.

I suspect that:

1. the two walls are not aligned at the outside face,

2. the two walls are not touching,

3. at least one of the two walls is set to disallow join,

4. the brick materials are not exactly the same for both walls,

5. the brick layers of the wall structure are not set to wrap, or

6. the brick layers of the wall structure are not defined with the same function value.

If I am mistaken, and you cannot figure out another solution, you can make it one wall with an edited profile, and a separate wall for just unbricked area that sits on top.

Ok, for the line showing up in elevation - I just used linework invisible to get rid of it - not sure if thats the best solution but it worked....

Also, I tried to attach the project file & it is oversized, can I email it to you or how do I purge what I don't need to make the file smalller?

For the other options, I've been pressed with other work & will try the suggestions tonight....

Keep the options coming Smiley Happy

Thanks all for all your ideas...

Go to manage and select purge unused. Careful, it will not only delete unused families but types as well. U can select what to purge.
