Viewport on sheet automatically moving

Hi,

I am getting some recent strange behaviour on sheets that have been working fine for sometime until now.

Joey_JM_0-1594375601891.png

For some reason the viewport on the sheet keeps moving to some random position off the title block. Well graphically this seems to be the case. Some of these views are pinned and i know for a fact that nobody has intentionally or accidentally moved them and the scope boxes were not touched.

In fact, when I toggle pin/unpin the view automatically snaps back into the correct position. Same for when I try to move it back, it is as if the viewport was in the correct position to begin with. So it appears to be some bug or corruption in the file.

Unfortunately it keeps happening even after a file audit and it affects our pdf/dwg output (ie. exports off the titleblock).

Anybody have the same thing? Is this a know issue? Is there a solution/workaround?

Cheers

That is definitely weird. Have you tried remaking the sheet?

A workaround?  I've never experienced or heard of this problem before.  That tells me it is a local phenom.  Hard to troubleshoot. First, let's confirm it's not replicable. Post the file.

...tell us what Version your are using too.

Thanks for replies guys. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to upload to public forum, but I am slightly reassured that you both have not seen this before and therefore not a common issue.. I suspect our project file is just a little messed up and maybe needs a little TLC.

It seemed to affect about 10 views that either shared the same Scope box or were dependent of those that did. However other views that also used the same scope box are, as yet, unaffected.

Using Revit 2020.2, with workshared project, about 1 year old file.

I have not noticed it happen yet today. If/when it does I will re-post that it is ongoing and next course of action would be to delete/remake the sheets...

If it persists, I quess I'll find a place to send the file to Autodesk support.

Cheers

I am seeing this exact same behaviour - unfortunately I can't share the file due to client privacy (very particular client) - using Revit 2020.2.4, workshared file via BIM360. File is approx. 1.5 years old.

This behaviour has only started in the last 2 weeks or so - only seems to effect plan views, and same fix of interacting with the position of the viewport in some way, at which point it snaps back to the titleblck. So pin/unpin, if view was pinned (or in case of one which wasn't pinned, I moved it 5mm in any direction, and it snaps back on the title block, then i move it back 5mm in the opposite direction to get it back to where it started...)

Did you ever find a fix???

Thanks

@wominicdilson

The OP seem to have abandoned ship after this post...as he stated in his last reply, he will be back if the issue reoccurred. SO it either did not and the issue resolved itself or he found his answer elsewhere

Why don't you start a new thread and post some more details specific to your project some screen shots maybe or if you can share the Titleblock family

Hi @wominicdilson,

As @RDAOU rightly guessed, this was somehow resolved. I cannot be too sure of the cause but suspect it had something to do with the scope box which i replaced with a new one. It might have been the views themselves but i dont believe we needed to replace in the end. Either way, the problem stopped and was a only local glitch that affected a handful of views. Hope that helps.

I haven't seen this exact problem, but there's a saying: 'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results'. In my opinion, thats rule #1 in Revit problemsolving. (Meaning Revit is insane, not you. 🙂 Doing things twice in Revit sometimes does give you different results for some reason). What I would do in your case: first simply duplicate the view (with detailling if needed) and see how that goes. If you have the same problems, create a new view 'from scratch'. There's a good chance that it will work. If not, try it without the scopebox.

Hi all, thanks for the responses - all wise words. I didn't think worth starting new thread, as issue was identical, but similarly to @Joey_JM, the majority of the issue appears to have simply gone away by itself. It did persist with 2x views - but the suggested simple solution of duplicate w/ detailing and replacing the old ones with identical copies seemed to reset whatever it was that had caused the odd behaviour.

Thanks again for the help all, hopefully if anyone else has the same experience in future they'll see this thread and save themselves any major stress!

Hi! I started experiencing the same problem described by @Joey_JM yesterday after working on the project for months with no issue . I'm using Revit 2021. On multiple sheets the views cropped by scope boxes have moved. If i change the scope box and then reapply the initial scope box the view returns to the correct position on the sheet. Is this a bug? What could be causing this?

I think that all of the information you are going to get is already posted about a seemingly random and seldomly occuring issue. Views sometimes get corrupted. It is probably prudent to just recreate and hope that it doesn't happen again.
