Is there a free viewer so that I can review a revit drawing?  The Autodesk website says to download Design Review and export the revit file as a dxf, but how can I do this if I can't open the file in Design Review?

You can download a trial of Revit which will expire in 30 days if you don't license it....it will then be a "viewer"
