Why can't a view reference ...Reference to a Legend...… i.e. Reference to just a sheet number and not a detail number necessarily.

Hi

 

you can create a new family/edit existing and save a copy

by deleting Sheet number from the " CALL OUT "

 

delete reference number... keep the sheet number..delete reference number... keep the sheet number..

Are you talking about a Callout's View Reference? If so, one reason it can't, is because a Legend isn't really a typical View.  Unlike other Views, a Legend can be placed on multiple sheets.  However, you can reference a Drafting View.  Maybe this is what you want your call-out to reference.

Just think about it.  A legend view can be placed on multiple sheets, so if even if you were able to reference it, which one of those sheets would be the winner?
