I have purchased Revit LT 2017 for use on a multi-user new building project.
Now I note that the live model files being supplied by the lead consultant are Revit 2016, and
have to be upgraded to 2017 to view/use.
The Project Architects Revit model is 2016, and I note that Autodesk advises that there is no backward compatibility.
What am I supposed to do as there are other parties on the project that could well be supplying files in other Revit versions.

If you have access to previous versions of Revit, use 2016.  If you receive a 2016 file and update it to 2017, nobody using 2016 will be able to open your file.  So, use an older version, or get everyone else to upgrade.

In the real world this is not easy:

On major builds 'contributing players' are at different stages of Autodesk upgrade cycle's!

I am a minor 'player' and only have Revit 2017, whilst the 'big boys' (with multi-licences) are happy to be on 2016.

Can someone explain to me how 'in the real world' Autodesk expects every licence to be sincronised!

Meanwhile, I am stuffed. I cannot incorporate my work into the project whilst the 'big boys' stay with 2016.

How do I get out of this jam!!!

@Anonymous hello, sorry to say, you don't have a choice, you need to upgrade your revit to the version what they have. no backwards compatibility. thanks

You say 'Upgrade to what they have...."

I have had to purchase Revit LT 2017   .... the others on the project appear to beusing Revit 2016, 2015 (whatever!)

I can read and work on their files, but they cannot read my work, as I cannot save as 2016, 2015 (as I can and do in Acad)

NO Back compatibility is the PROBLEM!!!

@Anonymoushello, sorry my apology, i should say downgrade from Revit 2017 to Revit 2016 so you can work together with the file. no other way to save backward. thanks

Ok, how do I downgrade to Revit LT 2016, and still be able to work on projects that I need to with Revit LT 2017?

(I used to think that Autocad R13 was frustrating, but I think this is worse!)

@Anonymous hello, what i mean for downgrade is you need to purchase a license for Revit 2016 and you can still open your files from Revit 2016 to Revit 2017 but you cannot open Revit 2017 into Revit 2016. thanks

Check if you're eligible for a previous version of Revit:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/software-downloads/previous-versi...

If you're on subscription or on a maintenance plan you might be able to install up to three previous versions of your software without having to purchase additional software.

You can then install more than one version on your computer and use the right one for each project.

I do not appear to be eligible for earlier versions as my much older licenced versions don't appear in current listings. Guess my input on the project will have to wait until the other consultants upgrade, or until someone agrees to buy me Revit 2016!

Autodesk, same old . . . same old . . . their way or the highway!

You mention older licensed versions...  Are you on subscription?  What did your reseller say about your eligibility for previous version access?

In 2008 I had Autodesk Licenses for:

1. Autocad (x2)
2. Autocad LT (x12)
3. Revit (x2)
4. Maya (x2)
5. Rhino (x2)

Then had practice crash, and meanwhile I have only been using just Autocad.

You would not see the previous versions listed as separate entries (I mean in the main page of your account, where I assume you were expecting to see the much older products you mention).

See the following article:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/software-downloads/previous-versi...

It has screenshots that show exactly where in your account you should look for the previous versions. If you've purchased Revit LT 2017, you should find options for downloading 2016, 2015 and 2014.
