V stands for Category??

I'm curious as to why the default shortcuts for Category Hide (VH) and Category Unhide (VU) use V? For teaching I get students to learn Mnemonically (for example to differentiate between Window Tile and Tabbed Workspace) so that they can more readily recall a default shortcut... but V has me stumped. If anyone has any insight I'd love to hear it.

No insight, just a guess

From the Keyboard Shortcuts menu:

VH is used for "Hide Category" and "Hide in View"...so "View Hide" => VH?

And because VH is now "Hide Category" "Unhide Category" becomes similar to VH thus VU?

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

... View: Hide...

... View: Unhide...

I've thought about that too but it doesn't make sense to associate specifically with Category. Hiding an element makes sense (EH) because the rational acronym (along with EU for Element Unhide), but VH is still an outlier. A very liberal association would be somehow tied to Visibily Graphics where you can hide categories. Perhaps that's what the Revit team were thinking when they defined the default shortcut?

Actually I'm willing to bet that when the default shortcuts were created they may very well have had VGH and VGU for category hide/unhide similar to EOD for Element Override Display (which is still used). They may have removed the G to be more in line with the 2 letter norm. If anyone who knows their Revit trivia can confirm, this will put an end to my yearly explanation to students that VH stands for Vategory Hide and that the developer who assigned it was a really bad speller 😉
