Hello All!

When upgrading a Revit 2015 model to Revit 2018, the upgrade freezes and crashes between 64%-77% with the error message:

"An unrecoverable error has occurred. The program will now be terminated. All of your data has been recently saved, so there is no need to create recovery files."

Solutions fried:

- Recreated User Profile

- Repaired Revit 2018

- Upgraded to the latest Revit 2018.1

- Restarted

Still, my end-user gets this issue. Please see screenshot as well.

Upgrade one version at a time - first 2015-2016, then 2016-2017, finally 2017-2018.

I read it a little differently...I think I understand that the error is in upgrading a RVT file from 2015 to 2018. Should work all by itself. You might try opening it and auditing it at the same time.

The end-user has tried detaching the model, auditing, and upgrading from local file version Revit 2015 and it still crashes in 2018. I will look into upgrading the file version by version, which is very tedious. This process should be a lot more seamless.

Do you by chance have Links in that Project from previous versions? This has been my Achilles heal before when upgrading a project . The upgrade changes to a linked model are temporary; they are not saved when you save the host model. To permanently upgrade a linked model, you must close the host model and then open, upgrade, and save the linked model.

...I know; you're gonna say "I don't want to upgrade the link".  So, unload it and then save the project.
