Upgrade Revit 2012 files to Revit 2017!

Hi everyone!

In our office we have been working with Revit 2012 and now we upgrading to Revit 2017. I want to know which is the best/recommended procedure to upgrade the project files and the families, as well as if there is a free tool that can help the process.

Thank you for the suggestions. Yes, i have, but my doubts are about the process of upgrading the file itself. For example, i read that instead of just open the file in the new version, we should open a new project first and then link the old version file, bind and ungroup. Is there a significant difference?...
