Unicode control characters problem in revit 2018

Text rendering in revit 2018 doesn't respect contol characters as expected in right to left languages(Hebrew,Arabic). See example below.

In Revit 2017 it works fine (except after line breaks whitch also needs fixing).

The issue is critical for firms working in RTL languages.

Hi @iftah

Can you try and install updates, open the Autodesk desktop app and click My Updates. To install a new version of your Autodesk software, open the Autodesk desktop app, sign in, and click My Products. To use a web browser to install updates or a new version, sign in to Autodesk Account.

(Your access to new versions or updates depends on your Autodesk software entitlements.)

Run the file and let us know if you still have the same error.

I installd Revit 2018.0.1 Hotfix and it didn't help.

I tried creating an new Revit 2018 file from scrach (the first file was an upgraded Revit 2017 file), and still same error.

This means that the error isn't related to a specific file, but to the revised text rendering engine in Revit 2018.

Hi @iftah

Can you try the steps below and let us know if this works?

  • Open the text file using a text editor (such as Notepad), and use the Save As command.
  • In the Save As dialog, change the file's encoding from ANSI to Unicode, and save the new file - for creating keynotes using a language that requires a script supported by the Unicode Standard,
  • Now you can use Unicode characters in the file. In Revit, open the Keynoting Settings dialog, and use Browse to select the new keynote file.

Hi Viveka,

The porblem I broght up is in lables, text notes and scheduals. not keynotes.

The example in the first post is of a lable in a titleblock family.

(It might be in key notes to. didn't  run into it yet)

Hi Viveka,

Windows 10 Home, Version 10.0.15063 Build 15063.

I change my system local from English(US) to Hebrew(IL)

It didn't solve the problem, and also created a new one: When Editing dynamic dimentions and tags, the text box shows giberish. see attached screenshot.

Meanwhile Im back to english local.

Hi @iftah

Do you have the Segoe UI font installed?

Can you send us a file to test?

Let me know if you have questions regarding attaching/sending the file.

Yes. We have Segeo UI.

I have attached a titleblock with the lable that examples the bug. (I Converted the font to Sego UI. It didn't help)

Meanwhile I figured out that the bug is only in lables. Scheduals, Text Notes and Keynots work same as in Revit 2017.

Hi @iftah

Thanks for sending across the file. This is being investigated for a possible cause and resolution.

Meanwhile we tested with another Hebrew font and it works fine in Revit 2017 and 2018

Hi Viveka,

I attached a title block created with Revit 2017 and the same file opened and saved in Revit 2018.

I used the default Arial font label types. These files where created on a different PC in a different firm. the PC local is set to Hebrew(IL).
