Unable to add sections or elevations to the plan.

I'm new to Revit. Using Revit 2023, I have an architectural model that only contains a structural model and a mechanical model linked in. There is nothing in it of its own (I don't know if that matters or not). But I need to make some GA drawings from this model to show the combined items from structural and mechanical. At some point there may be Electrical as well. There will never be objects in this model that are not linked from somewhere else.  I have the plan fine and have it on a sheet, but When I try to add a section or elevation, I get this error which tells me nothing useful. How can I add sections and/or elevations to this?

The message says that you created the elements. It also says that they aren't visible in the view and gives you a number of possible reasons why.

The most likely reason is that the category is turned off in the view.

So, you are trying to place a Section Marker in the View; right?  Well, first thing I would do is press the light icon on the VCB to activate Reveal Hidden Elements.  See it now?  Let us know.  If not, we'll proceed on to the next thing to try.  😉

Yes I've tried that and nothing shows up.

I see @ToanDN posted "the 33 list".  I guarantee you that one of those 33 applies.  If you are new to Revit, I would make a hardcopy of that list and keep it handy. You'll reference it many, many times as you are learning Revit.  BTW: that Error Message is very common - and useful.

In case you are not aware, most those Error Message contain additional information that could be even more useful. Press the "Expand>>" button to drill down.  FWIW.
