Transferring Layer Styles from CAD to Revit

Hello, I am looking to transfer our CAD layer styles into Revit. I realize in Revit you can change the way layers export and their properties manually, but we have hundreds of layers and styles that we have defined and want to continue to use in Revit and doing this would be a huge task that many of us don't have time for. Is there some way to convert our AutoCAD layer styles and implement them into Revit?

This just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Revit is a totally different animal. There are no layers in Revit.

Layers??? Revit doesn't use them.

Are you trying to create a Custom Layer setting for EXPORTING to Cad from Revit, that matches the old Cad Layer Standards. ???

Key statement there. I got a bit mislead by the title of the thread. I thought they were importing .dwgs.

Well, it's funny you say that. He didn't say "Line", but if you think about, what other Layer property, besides Linetype and Lineweight, would you want to "transfer" to Revit?

I thought he was referring to layer states, but, now that you mention it again, line styles does make sense when we put it in the context of exporting back out to AutoCAD. I think.

By "layer styles" do you mean the setings assigned to each layer, i.e. layer properties?

Yes exactly, sorry if my post was confusing. I am not well versed on this topic as I'm fairly new to Revit and am just trying to see if it's even possible.

Forget about it. There are no layers in Revit.

You can always try to Import the drawing (DWG) that has the Layers you have into Revit in any view that it will appear. The imported drawing should have all the layers being used in the model space for this to work. Then select the imported object and explode it. Delete the linework if you don't need them. Then check the Line Styles and you will find your layers appear as line styles.
