Transfer of Grids within a DWG File or IFC

To whom it may concerns,

I have receive an Architectural Revit file from a client that is disconnected from Central File for creating an IFC export from the file and importing the IFC File into Tekla Structures software.

Unfortunately, the Grids for this project is not transferring thru IFC File, which is the most important part of the file that we need to start our work with.

What would the possibility for us to have the Grids Transferred thru IFC File?

Appreciate if you could please let me know.

Hi @Anonymous

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community! Smiley Happy

The good news is that you can transfer the grids through an IFC file!

You just need to go to Export>Options>IFC Options, select the GRIDS in the revit category and change the IFC class name  from 'not exported' to 'IfcGrid'

Click HERE for the screen cast.

Please mark this response as "Accept as Solution" if it answers your question. Kudos gladly accepted.

Viveka,

This does not seem to work when linking the IFC to Revit 2015 from REvit 2018. Do you know the reason for this?

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to the Autodesk community! Thanks for posting on our forum.

I'm trying to better understand your question. Are you trying to open a Revit 2018 file in Revit 2015?

Can you share your files to test? I can send you a private folder to upload.

Looking forward to your reply update.

Regards,

I am trying to open a 2018 grid in 2015 and 2017 and it does not seem to show in either. If the location for models is secure then yes I believe I can issue them.
Thanks, Alex.

Hi @Anonymous

If IFC does not help, please try  Exporting to DWG as an alternate option, if you only want to transfer 2D data.

Revit cannot save a model from the current version RVT to a prior version RVT. See the reason by Sasha Crotty at this link HERE

Let me know if this helps.

Hi, yes I only need the 2D info but it needs to be in a grid format and DWG won’t transfer that will it?

Hi @Anonymous

Yes, it should. Or else, you are welcome to share your files with us to test.

Let me know and I can setup a private folder for you to upload your files.
