Revit 2011 text editing
How do I keep the formating stable in the text editing. I have columns separated by tabs. Every time I click to edit the text Revit re-arranges the paragraph. I can't keep the format stable so the columns read correctly. I never had this problem with CAD.
I feel like a Beta tester right now trying to produce permit documents on a program that isn't finished yet.

With all due respect, Katie, the "solution" posted on the blog is to "try and zoom to the same level as when the original text was created," which is impossible if the text was created by someone else. And zooming extents every time new text has to be created? C'mon, that's just ridiculous.
Why does it behave this way? It seems like it should be such a simple fix...
I find that solution completely unworkable. As the other commentor stated if the text is created by another person or even by me several weeks ago how am I to remember what scale I was zoomed at when I created the text.
The solution I ultimately have found is to abandon paragraph text and have each group of words a separate text element. Even text that is in the same line needs to be a separate element to stay consistant. This reminds me of acad r10. Revit is equal with software written 20 year ago as far as text goes.

This behavior is currently being investigated by the development team to be addressed in the future - so the blog post is really just an explanation of how it works now, and how you might be able to get around it. The zoom level doesn't have to be exactly the same, just close. I apologize though as I realize it's not ideal; it is just a suggestion based on the way it currently works.

I don't mean to be petty about this, but it seems kind of incredible that we'd have to give you guys feedback on something like this, so you could build a case to deal with it.
It should be self-evident that this is a really sucky behavior that ought to be fixed. Along with all the rest of the text shortcomings in Revit. Hanging indent? Paragraph spacing between numbered paragraphs? Adjustable tabs?
In the meantime, I really appreciate that Adesk workers troll this site, and look for feedback from the rabble who use the software.
Revit gets a big fat "F" as in failure when it comes to text.
From now on we are do the text in MSWord printing to pdf then importing them into the file.
I think I tried a pdf today, worked fine. Imported at an image. Could have been a jpg. Either one is better than native Revit text. I'll try it again in the morning and let you know how it works.
You're right it was a jpg I tested yesterday. It still printed and looked fine. The other option might be to do all the text in autocad and then link the file. That way the text would stay formated correctly.
Your other option is to work in reverse. Instead of importing your text into Revit, export your titleblock to Word. Format the sheet to be whatever your Revit sheet size is (30x42, 24x36, etc.), then insert the titleblock as a background, and put the sheet/project/data in the footer or margins, as appropriate.
Is there any progress on this issue. It's embarrassing to have my boss mark up text formating repeatedly on the same project.

Just throwing my penny in the wishing well. Could the next release kindly address the issue of text formatting not turning into alphabet soup with every click? Maybe put some of these rendering engine / material library upgrade projects on the back burner and bring Revit text formatting up to par? Even though it's the last thing we want to do, architects and engineers need the ability to format large bodies of text WITHIN the software, not import and export out of MS Office, too much room for error. Thanks truly to team Autodesk for any consideration on this matter.

has this Revit alphabet soup text dysfunction been fixed yet? if so can you post the fix to this 34 month old thread? we are more than half way thru 2014 now. i'm using Revit 2014 x64 R3.

Word has an absolute page size limit of 22", so if you have a 22x34 title block you cannot write your notes or analysis in word. I am going to see how it works with Adobe Indesign for a project I am working on now.
