temporary dimensions give inacurate placement

When I place an object then move it to correct place with temporary dimensions let's say 1000 mm from grid. Then I put a dimension there to check and i see 999.9999999... What is wrong here. angle between objects is 90.000000°

Also, when i then click in the dimensions showing 999.99999 and type 1000 it doesn't change...

This appears to be a built-in feature of Temporary Dimensions in Revit

 

Revit: Rounding temporary dimensions (autodesk.com)

 

But also you need to check the Rounding in your Dimensions Style

Hi Jay,

 

In my normal plans i have the correct rounding so i don't see the error in plan. In general would be ok. The problem is that these dimensions export to IFC and are visible there...

If you reduce the accuracy doe this resolve the issue?  Are you using imported models to dimension?

 

Inaccurate dimension are displayed when Unit Accuracy is increased in Revit (autodesk.com)

in the ifc viewer i can't change the accuracy. The dimensions shown are between objects made in the revit file itself.

 

It's just weird to me that i want to place an element 1000mm parallell to another object using temp dimension; But then revit places it in reality at 999.9999... anyway, i'll just write it up as another thing revit can't do. like creating lines less the 0.8

Within Revit is it a simple model or does it include links/references or and coordinate adaptations such as Project Base Points or Rotations?

 

I have seen such instances where trying to adapt models to other references and the tolerances are out as you see here!

it is quite a complex model with indeed real coordinates and true north rotation. But i don't see how this should affect placement of elements.

I guessed as much, these will be minuscule differences in rounding between models as you see.

For instance in Autocad an angle can be rounded to 14 decimal places where this is not the Case in Revit so these are the type of anomalies which occur

hm, when i put a reference plane at 1000mm with temporary dimensions it places correctly as seen on the dimension i placed afterwards. But then if i do the same with a wall again same problem as before. Guess i'll just put ref planes and align my objects to those.

Never mind i tried this at a different location and also ref planes are placed incorrectly with temp dimension. thanks for following up but I'll have to go to the client and explain it's just how the program works...

Hi @Koen4,

 

Revit has a internal tolerance setting, something about 0.7mm

You can't move elements with such small incremental values, to solve it first change it to 1001 and then to 1000.

thanks for the replies, i know mainly why this is happening. But to solve revit would have to allow more specific project rotation.
