Temporary Dimensions.... Adding etc for Entity Placement

Keep running into issues with using temporary dimensions to relocate objects.

As example, I want to relocate the right jamb of this storefront (curtainwall) so it's 16" from face of wall at the right jamb. But I can't figure out a dimension handle to drag to that side of the window from the left side OR, ideally, a way to add a temporary dimension.

If I dimension and change that dimenision the whole window moves and messes up my left jamb.

So, as best I can tell i need to have preselected the storefront to stretch and if I'm doing that then I can't use the dimensions that I draw when out of the selected window.

My work around to all of this has been to draw a detail line at the location I want the entity to move to (in this case the jamb), then stretch the entity to that reference/ "construction line".... which is how I would do it in cad.

But, something's telling me I'm missing something/ not best practice etc.

Would like to find a good tutorial on this as well if anyone has recommendations.

Note that for the left jamb I was able to drag dims (from the middle handle) and everything works as expected. Just don't know how to handle things like this when the dims you want/ need are missing.

Accepted solution

A Curtain Wall (all walls and lines too) has a Shape Handle and an Endpoint. If you add a dimension that snaps to the shape handle then the dimension value will alter the length of the curtain wall instead of moving the whole wall, or use Tab key to cycle/select the shape handle and if the temporary dimension appears in a usable fashion it should let you stretch the wall instead of moving it.

Thought I already had accepted as solution.....

Starting to get the hang of this now though still a little pulling teeth.

Probably the most difficult part of revit for me now..... moving stuff around with dimensions rather than creating construction lines like in cad. Revisited the work plane notion that you/ others talked about before my brain was ready for it. Aha moment today regarding that and follow how they are WAY more useful than simple construction lines.

So, definite progress in this arena. Will keep plugging along!

Thanks for all the help. Definitely turning a corner now!
