Suggestions on Sheet views/ working view/ dependent?

What is the best way anyone has found for having a sheet view versus a working view. I think I am trying too hard to make it similar to CAD with a main view as a working area, and a dependent on sheets - this does not seem to work with scale, among other things. 

I like having a working view somewhat separate from sheet view for testing layouts, sketch lines, background images, etc. Suggestions on the best way to achieve this?

I simply use the "Not on Sheets" Project Browser organisation scheme.

Then duplicate views as required- for working on. All the views that are actually on Sheets get placed in a separate group.

This makes it very easy to clean up your Revit Project for archiving- ie deleting all the working views that are not on Sheets
