Student using Revit 2017 on Windows Surface Book

I am an architectural engineering student and will be taking a course that uses Revit for commercial design and have just purchased a windows surface book to use for the course. When using Revit 2017 on the surface book I am unable to access more than one type of door, window, or wall and am wondering if it's because I have to load more or if my laptop just doesn't allow me to access other options when clicking the drop down arrow in the properties pallet. Upon clicking the arrow to view more wall options the box turns blue and does nothing; however, if I click on edit type I am able to view more wall types, which leads me to believe that I should see more options when initially looking in the wall properties pallet.

My guess is that this is a result of lack of experience with the software or my surface book is just not compatible with the software. I appreciate any input to help me solve this issue.

1st...Revit will run on the Surface Pro if you got the i5 or i7 processor.

2nd...which template did you start with?  If you started with Construction or an MEP template, your options are pretty lacking.  Start with default or architecture to have more items already loaded.

Walls are system families, so you have to create these yourself.  Doors and windows should be loaded via the Load From Library button in the panels.

Now if you did not start with a template and you cannot find the library, then follow the steps here to install that information:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

Because the Surface is wireless, I am guessing the install failed with the content.  Your best option is to install on another computer then copy the library from there to the Surface with a USB Drive.  Else...you are going to be waiting a while to download the content.
