Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete

Does anyone know if it is possible to model steel fibers reinforcing in an foundation slab?

Do you need to "model" the fibers themselves?  Isn't this something that could be captured in the physical properties of the material definition?

Yes you can capture it in physical properties, but think it would have been great to model the fibers as you can model rebar reinforcing or fabric reinforcing, as steel fiber is replacing the rebar/fabric reinforcing most of the time.

Ok still seems strange to me.  Rebar and WW fabric reinforcement have layout and spacing requirements, I am not familiar with it enough to know, but fiber reinforcement just seems "random".  Just place to a certain density within the concrete mixture. The EXACT position is not important like it is with other reinforcement.

Yes true, its random but the dosing of steel fibers per cub concrete is the important factor and to be able to visualise it in the model it would help. Even when you need to explain steel fibre reinforcing to a client as you can show the client the difference between the 2… As steel fibers is coming more and more in the scope of replacing rebar reinforcing in the AEC industry, it will be great to be able to model and schedule steel fiber.

Scheduling can be done with a parameter and a calculated value.  You would not need to model it to be able to schedule quantities. it is unit of steel fiber (i don't know how it is measured/sold) per cubic yard/cubic meter of concrete. Volume of the slab/floor is already there, you just need a factor/parameter added to the slab/floor to calculate the steel fiber.

Please add in a calculated value - something like area / reinforcement per unit area or volume, as needed, to structural members. Please do not attempt to model the steel reinforcement - that would be adding way too much complexity to the model.

Hello,

I think steel fibre concrete is a complex material with a grading system that can be explained in five words: "cement, water, aggregate, sand and gravel." Fibre reinforcement can add strength to concrete because of its ability to bond with the cement paste. Steel fibre reinforces concrete by increasing the tensile strength and prolonging the life of the structure while also reducing cracking and shrinkage.
