Stairs issue

I'm trying to make L-shaped stairs stairs and I've used the stair by component tool for the base. I used stringers for the supports, but the balusters get cut as if they're placed on carriages, they are also placed above where the carriages would be rather then stringers. They still look like that even on landings.  What am I doing wrong?

I had no problems creating a "gosha-stairs" w/ "gosha railing". Just need to change the railing type from "Railing 1100 mm" to "gosha-rail". Am I not understanding your question? 

Edit: I can see what Toan is suggesting, but Revit will calculate offset automatically if you select the proper Railing and Host while inside sketch mode for the component stair. And, that railing will remain the default until you change it again.

Yup.  He should have selected the stringers instead of the stair runs to host the railing.

Using top offset only sinks the edge into the railing, it doesen't get cut for me.

Okay this should fix it.  When you build a baluster family, open an OOTB one and see how it was created.

Aleksandra: I'm a little confused. Perhaps, I can help. What is it exactly that you want to do?  

...are you trying to line up the base of the railing with the top of the stringer? If so, you need to fix the "gosha-stairbase" family...[con't] or adjust Bast Offset in Main Pattern. But, the railing needs to be HOSTED to the STRINGER - not the treads as your original does. This is what I thought the issue was initially: A HOSTING ISSUE. Now it appears to be something else.

What did you change in the stair setup? Got my mistake with the baluster family, but when I load the fixed one into my initial stair file the tops are still not right. They are no longer cut in a weird way, but the cuts are horizontal, not angled.

With the baluster built and constrained correctly, you don't need Offset @ base and Top because the balusters will be trimmed properly by the Host and the Top Rail.  Reset them to 0.

Setting my stairs to the same numbers doesen't seem to help. 

@barthbradley I wrote a reply to you, but it mysteriously disappeared! Basically the issue was this:

I'm not sure how to host it to stringer - when I create stairs the railing gets created automatically, when I deleted the rail and created it through railing > place on host > stringer   nothing changed at all. Pick new host selects everything together, the stairs and the stringers. 

Got them looking like this now:

when you are in SKETCH MODE making a component stair, there is a tool available in the upper-right corner called "Railing". Press this button to select the Railing you want to use as well as the rail's Host (Stringer or Treads). Once it is set, that railing and its hosting will become the default rail used whenever you make that component stair -- until you change it again? Get it?

Did you open the baluster family and the project file I sent earlier?

1. The railing must sit entirely on the stringer. Your stringer width is 230 so the Railing's Tread/Stringer Offset value should be -115 so that their centerlines align.

2. Use the revised baluster family.  I have corrected the voids with pro er constraints.  Change the Height and see if the family flexes properly without any error warning.  The original one gave a warning of some over constrained.

3. Reset the Base and Top Offset value to 0 and let the Stringer (Host) and the Top Rail take care of the geometry clean up.

Done all that properly and the railing should come clean like the image I attached earlier.

You baluster is still wrong. I bet the voids did not get constrained properly.  Try the one I sent.

@ToanDN that is the fixed baluster from your file loaded into the old file of my stairs, which is why assumed it is the stair set up that is wrong. I did pay attention to all the changes

Edit:  Attached please find the baluster family.  I ma have uploaded the unsaved version in the previous post.  Make sure you use this one.

Below is the properties for the stair and the railing. I did not change anything from your stair, only the railing and the baluster family.  If you still cannot solve it, upload the stair and its railing again.

I even created a brand new stair and the railing works flawlessly.

Hi, I am not sure if you know why balusters are not cut at the top.

If you know that just ignore this replay>

If you select the baluster type in the Project Browser and double click in it the dialog box will pop up.

Then make sure the parameter "post" is unchecked. This parameter prevents balusters and posts from top cutting'
