Stair Types created in previous versions (2016) non-functional in 2018

Is there a solution for the non-functionality of stair types that were created in Revit 2016 and then either loaded into 2018 or the model was updated to 2018?  All parameters within the types are gone aside from dimensional parameters.  New stairs cannot be created with said types and existing stairs of those types are very difficult to change...  Do we just have to accept that these types are non-functional and have to recreate new types in 2018 and then swap?

Not sure I understand. You shouldn't be losing any functionality after upgrading.  In fact, you should be gaining functionality. Want to post the 2016 file (just the stairs will do) so we can upgrade it to 2018 ourselves?

I have attached our stair depot and a blank project that I copied the stair types into. This container file was likely created prior to 2016 so that info was somewhat misleading I guess. The custom stair types display very few parameters when accessing type parameters from the project browser as well they are not listed as types when creating a new stair. These stair types did function in a 2016 project but I was told that when an upgrade was made to 2018 the stair stopped working properly. Not sure if this is enough info to get an answer. Let me know if you can think of anything else to include. Thanks

Yes, rails and stairs got an update, some things have changed fundamentally* which cause in certain cases problems. Best is to model stairs new in 2018.

 

*Like existing information is processed and handled differently.

I agree, that is what I would do for new projects but given this issue came up in an existing project where the stairs have already been modeled I was hoping that a solution was available to avoid problems/loss of information when switching the modeled stairs to a newly created stair type.

I'm afraid you have to model them again. Or use the file which isn't updated and continue to work in 2016.

I'm still unclear what the issue is. Can you be more specific? You say: "parameters within the types are gone" after upgrading.  What parameters?

Hello

 

To resolve your stairs solution, you need to pin point the exact changes...

To do that.. create a new Revit file with 2016 version stairs..

Lets name it Stair-2016

not link that file in New 2018 Revit version file..

you should see the stairs without any problem..

 

Now, select the link and Bind it..

This will give you actual and exact updates which will apply to stairs and it will

modify as per 2018 file... so if you are fine with it then go ahead.. else

make necessary changes ( material, material type, handrail type, name, profile used in handrail... long list )

and then again repeat the process of link, and bind to see whats getting affected..

for sample , you should see the following message revealing list of changes..
