Stair Railing won't find host/finds wrong host

Hello all,

I'm having some difficulty getting stair railings to consistently take the slope of their host, or end at the correct host.  For example, in the image below there are several issues with railings on a multi-run square: the short segment at the back isn't following the slope of the stringer below, the last segment at the top is flat but extends the balusters all the way down to the stringer below, and the inner segment has a strange steep slope that does not parallel the stringer.

Any suggestions for resolving this?  I'm in Revit 2017, attaching a file with the example stair and railings.

You can't overlap sketch lines the way you are. Separate sketches.

...if I may suggest using the preview when sketching. It's helpful in seeing where the sketch fails in real-time.

Thanks for the tip, however breaking the railing into separate sketches didn't help.

Also, any tips for the wrong/no slope on the short segments to the back?

The lines of the railing need to stay on the boundary of the stairs...so if you extend your lines off of the stairs then any elements will go to the next host...so in your example it is the level.

When going the route you are taking I control my lines by elevation vs by host.

What do you mean by the boundary of the stairs?  all the railing sketch lines are on the boundary of a stair run or landing.  Can they only be on runs?
