Stair path annotation does not work at all

Using Revit 2017.2.1

Having studied this helpful video regarding stair path annotation, I can confirm that 2017 does not behave as expected.

In basic terms, after selecting Stair path symbol, no stairs in my revit model can be selected.

Are there any reasons why this is happening?

I have no problem applying a stair path symbol. If the symbol is already applied, the stair will not highlight. Please check if the symbol is already in place, but it's hidden as an element or hidden as a category (VG) or by a filter.

Stair Path tool only works with Stairs by Component, not Stairs by Sketch.

Aha, since I rarely use stair by sketch, I totally forgot about it. Thanks for a reminder.
