Snap to imported CAD geometry - Intersection

Hi everybody,

in my Revit file I have some symbols that are in a linked DWG file (coming from a consultant).

They are very simple symbols, a circle with a cross inside. I need to dimension them to the center point but Revit won't snap to the INTERSECTION of the cross. (nor to the center of the circle).

The only solution I could find is to manually draw a little line on each symbol and dimension to that (but that is far from efficient)

Is there something I'm missing?

It looks like Revit limitation and thing worth to improve - Revit Idea Station

If you have this dwg file and these elements are blocks with center base point you can use AutoCAD Lisp to rotate them all to get perpendicular lines inside these symbols (it allow to dimension symbols without additional lines) and link with Revit as second dwg file.

I know it would be better to have built in option without workarounds.

Unfortunately the symbols are supposed to look like that, I cannot rotate them....

Yes I know but you can create new Linked CAD file and turn off layers. Dimension rotated block but display original one.

Ask the consultant to draw four lines from the center of the circle instead of two lines then you can tab-snap to the symbol in Revit.

Option 1 : So you have CAD drawings from the consultant.. Just open that and

those symbols must be " blocks"

Edit them and add reference lines for your convenience of dimension it..

and reload CAD.. and dimension in Revit..

Option 2 : If you want to keep a total control over drawings and dimensions, you may 

create a revit family ( 2d annotation) or even ( 3D famliy ) and dimension them easily..

this way you wont loose the work if your consultant makes any changes in the future.

( i have mentioned option 2 to create own family, cause if you dimension to linked CAD files, and

if there are changes in CAD later on, you will loose all the dimensions and work.. )
