Good morning all!!!

I haven't been able to find an answer to this anywhere but it seems so simple, figured I would give it a shot.

So I'm using Velux Skylights in just the basic Revit stock model trying to figure our how to modify skylight openings. All I want to do is chamfer a part of the opening around the skylight for day lighting renders. I can't modify the opening in three dimensional space, its there a simple way to do this, or would I have to create a componant for the roof and manually model it kind of deal?

Thanks

Create an in-place model with a void sweep, use Pick path and pick the edge of the opening, then draw the profile of the chamfer, finish the void sweep but stay in the in -place model mode, use Cut Geometry to cut the roof with the void.  Repeat it for the other edge.

If you want to chamfer all 4 edges of the opening then draw one void sweep but pick the 4 edges as one closed loop.

Not sure where you download the family. If you download from VELUX website, it has the skylight family with those chamfer built in. Check it out https://www.velux.co.uk/professional/products/cad-bim/revit

You can edit the skylight family to create a chamfered cut like that.  Edit the family and take out the opening in the host and then redraw with a void blend to get the chamfer you want.  Use that void to cut the host in the family. Now when you load it back in the cut will be adjusted in the model.

The in-place method will probably be faster if you only have this one, but if you use this kind of detail all the time, you might want to consider changing the family so it will always be there.

You are looking for a SPLAYED opening.  We typically model them (e.g. frame 'em). The rough roof opening is not cut at an angle.

Hmm interesting, none of the families I downloaded had this detail. I'll keep my eye out, thanks though!

Worth noting: Velux also provides construction/installation details in CAD and PDF.

Yeah I get that. The only reason I was worried about it was for the light render. I'm exporting the model for Daylight Visualizer and I needed it in the model for the export.
