Single railings portions on more than 2 runs stairs?

Hello,

How do I achieve the railings layout shown in green in the screen-cap?

I cannot find a way to do it in Revit 2020, which obviously cannot be, and I must be missing something simple.

(I cannot break the stairs in two pieces, since these are a double story stairs, and the middle landings have no outlets).

Thank you

If you break at the landing it wouldn't be called continuous railing ... ie: if it is not continuous you might as well place the rails for each run separately...It being a multi-story, you wont have to repeat for each floor

  1. Start by placing the Multi Story stair without Rail
  2. After start Railing tool >> select the type >> use Pick Host >> Select the first run >> sketch path >> Finish sketch (Rail will be placed on that run for the same run on all building stories)
  3. Repeat for second Run

Thank you RDAOU,

however, please understand there is a difference between multistory stairs, and stairs with more than one run (switch back runs, that is).

So, my stair is NOT a multi-storey, I have never wrote that.

My stairs are climbing a "double storey", which means, they have more than one switch back, AND the runs are overlapping.

This happens when there are no floor outlets and the risers need to be consistent form bottom to top of the stairs, even if the stairs switch back 3 times.

Please try this condition, and let me know how to model the railings at the locations marked in green in my original screen capture.

thanks

Never mind.

Figured it out: split tool, you have to use the SL, (split tool) on the railing Revit creates by default, then you delete the railings on the landings.

Also, you may need to edit the remaining railings, and delete some extra segments and leave only those on the runs.  Annoying, but it works fine.

Thanks

I do understand the difference...you can still model it as a multi-story to save yourself some time. Two means that leads to the same end

Anyhow, the answer is the same, railing in a stair must be a continuous sketch otherwise you need to place them separately...So Model the stair without railing, then place the railing for each run as follows or model them integrated, split them and modify top rails, tedious but works however they wont be continuous I think (the former method is less headache)

  1. Start Railing tools and select type
  2. Place sketch line using pick line tool
  3. Use Set new Host and TAB select the run you need to host it to
  4. Finish sktech
  5. Repeat for all 4 runs

Difference is...in a multi-story you do that just for 2 runs and the stair tool repeats it for you. If you do not have more than one story, you can always add a level datum  (with no views and Building Story parameter unchecked - ie: a dummy level) and place stair from Level 0 to Dummy Level then connect levels and select the Level 1

I can confirm this trick only work in Revit full version and not working on Revit LT. You cannot select one run only as a railing host in Revit LT
