Showing Structural Elements within Architectural Walls

Hi all,

What's the best way to show structural elements within walls? I have structural columns, framing, etc. that I'd like shown within my wall assemblies. The only solution I've found is to create wall voids around the structural elements, but is there a way to automate this without cutting into my walls? Picture of my desired outcome below.

To show structural elements like columns and framing within walls in Revit without manually creating voids, you can use the following methods:

Use Filters and Visibility/Graphics Overrides:

Create a filter for structural elements such as columns and beams.
Apply this filter to your view and adjust the visibility/graphics settings to make these elements visible within the walls.
You can adjust the transparency of the walls to make the structural elements more visible.

Use View Templates:

Set up a view template that includes the visibility settings for structural elements.
Apply this template to relevant views to ensure consistency across your project.

I have a hunch that this is what you are looking for Use the "Join Geometry" Tool:

Use the "Join Geometry" tool to join walls with structural elements. This can help in displaying the intersection of walls and structural elements more clearly.

Adjust Wall Layer Priorities:

Ensure that the wall's structural layer has the correct priority to allow structural elements to be visible within the wall assembly.

Use Revit Families:

If you frequently need to show structural elements within walls, consider creating custom Revit families that include both the wall and the structural elements. This can streamline the process and ensure consistency.

Use Linked Models:

If your structural elements are in a linked model, ensure that the link is set to display them correctly in your architectural model.

RVT to the max

Thanks @theslacollier, the solution was to use both a filter and Join Geometry. I made a "Structural elements" filter in my view template and told Revit to show all structural columns, framing, and masses with a blue solid region. Once I joined the columns with the walls, they showed up properly. Cheers!
