Show topo contour lines behind floors

Is there any way to reveal the contour lines in topo elements behind floors (this is for plan views).

Thanks,

There's contours under the floor? Raised foundation? Make it Transparent.

There are different ways to achieve it.. depends on what you are looking for and comfortable with..

1. Transparency to Floor...this is just a quick way to see the topogrpahy below.. ( this may not be the permanent solution you are looking for )

2. Export CAD of topo and link back ( this is good to link in multiple views.. and if the topography is existing which doesn't change, but for new proposed topography, this may not be a good idea )

3. Select the topo, create a group... and copy ( move above floor ).. fix graphics to see the topo, countour lines..

making topo transparent. ( this will solve the plan view, but will create havoc on other view like elevation, section, 3d..but that can be solved using filter, or new workset which is turned off in all views.. and custom open only in plan)

4. ( this would be my suggestion )

Create a View dedicated to " Topography", Example 1. View_Topo, and 2. View_Ground Floor,

you can overlap these two views on Sheets ...keep topography transparent to get clear view..

best luck..

I'm still curious to know about the construction. Is it a raised foundation? Piers? What's the contour intervals?

...something else you could do: make the Toposurface under the floor a Split Surface. Then you can apply graphic overrides to it. Perhaps make the Split Surface's Projection Lines a Hidden Line Style.

This is basically to draw roads with the option of adding or turning off hatches for materials using floors. The contours are for grading sheets. Typically on grading sheets, we will show the outline of paths, roads, etc with contour lines going through. That is what I am trying to achieve.

Overlaying views on sheets might be the way we go in the end. I am unable to apply any transparency to the floors. Is this the correct way by way of materials (see attachment)?

Thanks

Folks,

I think I figured it out. I went into Visual Graphics overrides and used an override on the projection surface (per this thread: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/floor-transparency/td-p/7635357).

Thank you!!

So basically, you made the floor TRANSPARENT; right?

Yes, I should have clarified. that is what I did. At first I thought it was in the material, but nothing was changing in the view when I tweaked the transparency there. It works in the VG overrides though.

Yes, that's exactly what I said to do in the very first post.

...so, do I win?

Winner winner chicken dinner 🙂 I just couldn't make the transparency work initially. But yes...thanks!
