Sheet index with headers for each discipline

Is there a way to have the sheet discipline shown as a  Header in the sheet index? ( like the way ARCHITECTURE is shown as a header) Other Disciplines models are linked to our model and they don't have the Discipline identified in the sheet properties. I'm using Revit 2020 and we are using Bim360 -not sure if this matters -

Sort by Discipline and check Header.

....Sheet? Where's the Sheet Discipline Parameter coming from?  Sort by that Parameter.

You need to enter Discipline value for all sheets need to appear in the Index then Sort similar to below.

Based on the description you have given,

  • The Discipline models are linked,
  • and Sheet sorting parameter in the linked models either do not exist or exists and not filled

Answer is no...you cannot. Considering that you will not be able to change parameter values in the link from the main model (assuming the sorting parameter exist in the link), you will need to OPEN the linked Revit models and sort out the issue therein first

Based on my understanding of what the OP is asking, I think it is doable and with a Link as well. Maybe my understanding is wrong.  I guess it depends on the setup.  If the Link Views are used in Parent Views, then Discipline it an available parameter in the View List. It would have to be added to the Sheet List though via Project Parameters, as I and @ToanDN showed above.  Now if the OP is talking about adding sheets from the linked file to the sheet list in the Parent he would need to do this as well: Revit sheet list and plotting sheets from a linked model | Revit 2019 | Autodesk Knowledge Network

Again, I may have a different read on this than you do, so maybe you're right; that what the OP wants can't be done. Guess we'll see.

I missed the 'link' part.  In such case,  Discipline does need to be a shared parameter added to all linked and host model under Sheets category.  Discipline value for all sheets also needs to be entered in the links as @RDAOU suggested.

Doesn't need to be shared ... sheet sorting works with project parameter as well (both in main model and in links need to be either or ...)

Supposed to be the shared parameter to be updated in all the Sheets
To get the data in the Schedules

In my testing, it doesn't need to be a Shared Parameter.  If both the Link and Parent's Sheet Discipline Project Parameters are named identically, the Parent Schedule will pick up the Link's Sheet Discipline. Seems a little illogical to me, but that's the results I get.

You could have read, looked into the matter then consider posting or not... SHARED PARAMETERS ARE NOT REQUIRED

  1. SHEETS are a project Category
  2. BROWSER Organization Parameters do not need to be Shared for them to be scheduled
  3. Models can read and Project Parameters from Linked Models
  4. Parameters in General Are CASE Sensitive => Discipline is not the same as disciplinE

This Question is related To get the Headers in the Sheets List we need the Shared parameters,

right?

@RDAOU3

# If the Sheet list is with Including links means, Need to Update the shared Parameter Values on respected Links!
I am not Saying about the Browser Organisation,

For Browser organisation also we can use shared parameter as well!

I'm taking about Sheet Lists myself.  And yes, Headers too.  That's the fundamental question here.

@amarkonathala

It is correct that shared parameters are NOT needed.

The reason I suggested it was based on my own experience dealing with consultants' models.  I need them to introduce parameters (not just Discipline) in their models in order to organize a master sheet index correctly.  To make it idiot-proof (typos, wrong parameter types), I used shared parameters and send them the same txt file to import in their models.

Apologize for not making that part clear.

 Here Discipline Order is supposed to be A shared Parameter/ Project parameter to get the data in schedules with including links
And the ****parameter should be filled in the Linked Models to get the Values****

Do you understand the difference between "Shared" and "Project" Parameter?

@amarkonathala

 YOU ONLY NEED PROJECT PARAMETERS.

Maybe it is a language barrier. Watch the below Youtube and please do tell...do you see any shared parameters used at all??

  1. All sheets are scheduled from the link
  2. sorted using a project parameter (both in schedule of the main model and in the Browser)
  3. Parameter values for the sheets need to be given in the Link

PS: Trying to help is always good but it becomes bad when the information you are giving is wrong and misleading

No.  It is not a shared parameter in the example project.
