Shared Coordinates - Building Models and Site Models

Hey Revit Community,

I have the following Revit models and need to understand how to set up shared coordinates:

Site Model x 1

Building Type A x 10

Building Type C x 1

1. Should I link the building files into the site model file? Or link the site model into the building files? Do I do both?

2. Do I setup the survey point in the site model file and publish from site model to linked building models?

3. How do I have multiple building A's in the site model?

In short

  1. Either or yet both cases may sometimes apply. There are times where you link building into site and site into model. That depends on what you are doing and what you are trying to present
  2. Yes. The survey point is primarily set up in the site model and published to the links or acquired by the links depending on your workflow and the workshared environment (Local Revit server/Central vs Cloud hosted. In ACC and BIM360 there are some limitations that apply to Acquire vs Publish
  3. You do that by inserting another instance into the site models. Note: when you have multiple Instances of the same link you would need to create/save their setout to different sites. IE: the building A model will end up having multiple sites/locations where each shows its alignments and setout location with respect to ethe site model

Its not an easy task to get your mind around it if that the first time you do it and you might need to watch multiple videos and tutorials on the topic (some of which you might also feel that they are contradicting one another) best way to get it is to test it yourself on a dummy model
