Share your favorite tips, tricks and workflows in Revit!

Hello Awesome community! Smiley Happy

I wanted to make a thread about sharing your favorite tips, tricks, or workflows found within Revit. From hotkey combos to those really essential tools that everyone may not know about, this is the place to share!

I've set the ball rolling below with some simple cool tidbits 'using formulas in fields' that people may not be aware of.

If you have a requirement to reduce the size of an architectural element, maybe a wall which needs to be cut down to half its size - you can use a formula in the 'unconnected height' field, input =20' 0"*.5 and yes the wall's height is reduced by half! Don't forget to use the '=' sign in front of your formula!

Please, share your tips too! Feel free to use images and screencasts!

Best Regards,

Great tip!  And now there is a tool that will automate this process for your entire library!  Check out the Preview Image Generator!  (example output below from my library)

I have wanted to do something like this for a while and I had no idea how to do it exactly... Using the point attractor method in Revit do something a lot more fluid that using just one point attractor. And even using multiple points it seemed that the result would always be quite restrictive...

Check this out to see how to create very fluid panel variation with a point attractor method and even better QUITE SIMPLE, anyone could replicate and create their own - I don't use more math than a simple If statement that I explain also in the video:

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for sharing!Smiley Happy

Very interesting note and this video you've shared includes a detailed explanation of If statements and the formulas used in the panel with multiple point attractors.

hi @Viveka_CD

Well, I'm just well ,thank you.

I'm working now to make the frame of an internal work standard on using Revit. In the same time I try to increase my knowledge level on using other softwares that can work together with Revit in order to increase the efficiency  of architectural design....and that's why I was just excited when I followed Karam's post on the these subject ...

best regards,

I found it alarming at how many staff in my current office and generally don't know the Find and Replace text tool under the annotations tab. After 1 session all our documentation text has now been consistent. A useful tool that gets overlooked, especially changing text automatically throughout your whole project with just 2 click.

Hi Revit users,

Create 3D model with accurate spatial information

We have a tool to accurately create 3D models.

https://www.EzyCap.net

What this does more than draw up from image background:

1.It takes levels into account.

2. Spatial info can be very accurate with the help of control lines. See this video:

3. Before mobile apps are ready, we suggest the workflow should be sketch from desktop, then edit attributes on site with accurate measurements.

More videos: Ezycap.net channel

You are encouraged to apply for a unlimited free trial. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hello Community,

There are often times when we want to see what has changed in different Revit versions of the same 3D model.

Here is a cool tool to Compare differences in different versions of the same 3D model on BIM360

See: Parent topic: About Comparing 2D and 3D Designs
