Shade overhang and shade fins

Hello!

What is the best way to draw Shade overhang and shade fins using Revit 2018?

I want to draw the shadings in the picture below:window shading.JPG

@arghavan.A hello, either you create model -inplace sweep in the project itself or make a family and load into your project. thanks

@ennujozlagam thanks! Can you please tell me how should I create a model inplace sweep? I don't want to create a new family.

Follow up question

I want to export this model as IFC, how should I assign the IfcShading to this object?

what do you mean? can you please explain more. thanks

you can use insert > link IFC to your revit project file.

What I mean is that this mass object is not by default a shading, so Revit would not assign IfcShadingDevice to it by default. For example, as a contrast to this case, when you create a wall, Revit is intelligent enough to assign an IfcWall to it.

My question is, how can I assign any desired Ifc to a mass object?

you assign a subcategory to the mass-forms.

Mass_MyShading.JPG

and then you can define in the Export / Options /  IFC-Options how the mass gets exported

Thanks @FAIR59!

But did you add IfcShading yourself?

yes, in the options you can type anything you like. You mentioned ifcShading, so I typed that, I didn't check if its a valid ifc entry

@FAIR59 Hello again!

I tried to add "My Shading" to subcategory as you said, but it does not apply! When I write it and hit the apply button, then subcategory turns into <None> again. Any suggestion why this happens?

Arghavan

you have to define the subcategory before you can apply it.

To make a subcategory -  [Manage][Object Styles] select the category (Mass or Generic Models) and make a new Subcategory.

Hi again!

I tried to delete the subcategory that I created, and it was deleted in the "Object Styles". However it still exists in the list of subcategories in the the IFC Options! Is there any solution to remove it altogether from the IFC Options as well?

Thanks!

Arghavan

There is no solution using Revit. But the IFC-options file is a text-file, perfectly readable. So find the file and delete the line where the subcategory is defined.

I haven't tried it, so make a backup copy first in case of disaster
