Set up project with multiple buildings

Hello,

What is the best way to approach the project with a common underground parkade and multiple buildings on top? What are the best practices or maybe you would like to share your experience? Greatly appreciated. Thank you

I would definitly go with

1. Site + underground parking
2. Each building in a model

Couple questions you have to ask before proceed

- Will the multiple building done in single phase or multiple?

- Will the building have the same level elevation or different?

- What is the deliverable? Will it be one single building package for all the site or project will be split up in phase for different deliverable.

Usually I would plan out the first phase of the building by having parking and tower in one model. Once you go into the next phase, the new building will be linked model. As for sheet, the first phase will be placed in the original phase. Once you setup the second phase, it will be inside the link itself.

1. Phases might be multiple but it is never clear at the moment of a project set up which building is going to go after parkade.

2. Building has different levels ( and they change during the design stage back and forth)

3. so far it is a single package and everyone wants to see a model on the cloud that contains all related drawings (plans, sections and even typ det. )

Thank you for the useful links. but how to handle documentation in this case?  Are we able to create all drawings in site plan model or it is going to be separate sets? how about sections. Thank you

Documentation: - Two ways,

• Option 1 - All views and Sheets are generated in the Main Model (The site + underground)
• Option 2 - Each building will have its own set of documentation and sheet list - While the main model will have a Sheet list which consists of only place holders (no actual sheets except those for the underground parking and site

General sections and elevations

• The overall sections/elevations can be done in the main model where all the buildings are linked
• For individual buildings you can 
  1. Either create in the building models 
  2. Or in the main model by creating a scope box for each building and generating elevations/sections for those
     • NOTE: Use Either OR...ie: some might suggest that you create the elevations in the link then create another in the main model and set Link to display by link...however; that would be duplication and a waste of time 

Phasing:

You can have as much phases as you wish and they can/may overlap between the different models...The one thing you need to watch out for is the mapping of those phases

Levels

1. Each building can have its own
2. In the main model you can copy monitor the relevant ones only (considering that some might overlap)
3. Set all links not to display Levels and keep the copy monitored ones visible

1.  You can create views with annotations normally in each building models, then create views in the site model, set link to display by Linked view, choose the view, and place on sheet.

2. Or, create views and sheets in each building models to print.  Create site views and sheets + sheet index in the site model (set the sheet index schedule to include link elements).
