Am learing Revit 2013.  While playing with sample projects, I enter 3D view and check Section Box in view properties.  Section Box does not display.  What am I not doing?

I can't make a screenshot at the moment, but see the reply above my reply where I mention the three boxes. It's a screenshot with a black viewport in Revit. In the middle of it you see three boxes, a yellow icon. Usually that icon is blue (with a White background). This icon will only be visible when worksets are enabled btw.

Hi AlexDT,

Did you mean the crop view box? Is this the three boxes?

Hi AlexDT,

I got it,

Currently I am out of that project, so i don;t have that project file to check. Anyway I think it will work.

By the way, what do we call that icon (3 cube), and what is the function of that option?

Thanks in advance.

I dont know what the name would be, but it is a toggle to make elements editable. It has got to do with worksets.

When you have a central file, and are working with other people on the same project at the same time, Revit wants to make sure an element is not being editted by two people at the same time. By default elements are not assigned to anybody and thus display this toggle (to make editable).

I rarely have to use this toggle and it seems like when the element isn't claimed borrowed by another user, Revit will automatically assign the element to me. (this article is explaining this specifically: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/EN...)

For more information about worksets please look at: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/EN...

I found another place where the Section Box can be set on/off.
That's with the properties of the opened window (don't select anything), under Extents Section Box can be set on/off.

Maybe this will help.

In the sample file that comes installed with Revit, they hide the Section Box (rac_basic_sample_project.rvt). I finally figured out how to show it with the Reveal Hidden Elements. But I can't seem to make it unhide. Any solutions?

Step 1: Reveal Hidden Elements

  1. Open the 3D view where you expect to see the section box.
  2. Click on "Reveal Hidden Elements" (represented by a lightbulb icon). This will show all hidden elements in your view, including the section box.

Step 2: Locate the Section Box

  1. After clicking "Reveal Hidden Elements," the section box should become visible in the view.
  2. Right-click on the section box.

Step 3: Override Graphics in View

  1. From the context menu that appears, select "Override Graphics in View."
  2. Then, click on "By Element."

Step 4: Adjust Visibility Settings

  1. A dialog box titled "View Specific Element Graphics" will appear.
  2. In this window, find the option labeled "Visible."
  3. Check the box next to "Visible" to ensure that the section box is displayed.

Step 5: Confirm the Changes

  1. Click "OK" to apply the visibility changes.
  2. Finally, click on "Finish" to exit the "Reveal Hidden Elements" mode.

Now, the section box should be visible in your Revit 2025 view.
