Schedules need to read linked text parameters too.

According to "About Linked Models in Schedules" Schedules do not currently support text boxes. 

I have a project where I need to keep a master list of sheets and list which bid package each sheet is in. 

First, I set up yes/not parameters in each model for the sheets. Then I set up a second formula parameter to convert the Yes, or No to a Dot symbol. The formula text parameter will not read the yes/no parameter set in the linked model. 

A-450 and A451 will be moved to a different category later, but for this example you can see that the dot isn't showing up for those two linked line items.

If there's already a way to get linked files to work like this, please let me know.

Hi,

It should work, are you using the same Shared parameters for the Yes/No.

Below a sample, it converts the Yes/No of "test_yesno" (shared parameter) to Ok/No and dot/empty

You need to use the same shared Yes/No parameter in linked files and main file, assigned to Sheets category. In the main file, edit the sheet schedule and tick 'Include elements in links' box under Fields tab..

Yes, I am using the same shared parameter. The files are located on BIM 360. Does that make a difference? We are using the same titleblock family in each model, same shared parameter.

I created a shared parameter in the main model, added it to the sheet family, then added the shared parameters to the linked files. I then added all the info to all of the sheets where it needed to be, then it doesn't work when I link it back in.

Yes, "include elements in links" is checked. Otherwise the sheets themselves wouldn't show up.

The issue is clear: the IF statement is not reading the yes/no parameter of the Link.  How did you "set up yes/not parameters in each model for the sheets"?

This is what I did in each linked file and model first.

1. Manage -> Shared Parameters -> Select Sub Category (Sheets) -> Click "New" under "Parameters"

2. Name shared Parameter -> Set Type to "Yes/No" -> Repeated to get BID PK 2-4

Then I went to family, made sure shared parameter file is linked -> Add new instance Family Parameter as shown below. -> load titleblock family into all linked files and main model. 

Is there something I missed in this process? This is also a project on BIM 360.

Yes, the shared parameter was set to "Sheets" category. I can't find that option now that I'm looking through it though.

Hi,

Little side note to the use of YesNo:

If not used (not initialized) it has actually no value the grey checkboxes haven't been used!

It can't evaluate True or False statement, en so it's left empty.

Sample of not - initialized YesNo, make sure it actually on (black and not grey) or off.

Is this a process that doesn't work for BIM360?

Here's the part of the schedule in the main model that has the linked files. 

I have 2 bid package parameters. The first 4 is the yes/no parameter, the second 4 converts the "yes" or "no" into a dot symbol. The yes/no parameter and the dot conversion both work for the sheets in the main model, but not for the linked files.

Exactly, It won't read it! That's the problem.

For example, I clicked on I-452 and selected 3 & 4. 

Then I synced to central, published the model, and reloaded into the main model. 

I tried closing out of the linked models and it still will not link this information.

Wait a minute.  What family?  You are supposed to add the Y/N shared parameters to each of the projects, not family.  No family should be involved in this process.

But, it wasn't a parameter that was already in the family...so I wouldn't have a way to add click the yes/no parameter for each sheet unless I added it to the family.

You keep saying family.  What family are you talking about?

You need to open each project, go to Manage > Project Parameters > Add > then pick the Shared parameter you created in the 1st step and assign it to Sheets category.  Repeat to add all 4 shared parameters.
