Sample architectural model for lighting designers

Hello,

I am new to Revit and I tried my hand with sample architectural model provided by the software. I was so amazed to see that the model does not have a ceiling plan attached to it though I can see the ceiling level in elevation view. Also as a lighting designer, I wanted to put lights on it but since it does not have a specified ceiling the luminaires were attached with the floor as that is the face it could find to host.

Please advise how can I use the luminaires on the ceiling without having any ceiling plans.

You can create the reflected ceiling plan views yourself.  See below.

If there are no ceiling you can add them using Architecture > Ceiling tool.

Hello ToanDN,

I tried doing that, but its not letting me create any ceiling since it already has a ceiling level. It does have a compound ceiling but I can not put lights on it, whenever I am doing so, it goes to the floor. As I had tried putting the lights from elevation, tried to host it on the ceiling. This is getting really weird.

Don't create a reflected ceiling plan view of the Ceiling level. Do it for Level 1.

I tried that too.. it's neither letting me put any light on the ceiling..nor letting me to create another ceiling hence it already has a compound ceiling.

Hello @Anonymous

I think the problem might be your Lighting fixture. Is that Ceiling based or generic model only?

The reason is that the sample project has Level 1 living room and Level 1 offset just a little bit. So you want to create the RCP from the lower level looking up far enough to see both ceilings. As long as you see the ceilings in the view you can place the light fixtures on them.
