.rvt model distorted

Hi,

I have a revit model that needs to be used in ArcGIS in a coordinate system with feet. When I import the .rvt in a coordinate system (with feet), the model is all distorted, but when I input the .rvt into a coordinate system with meters, it displays correctly. Is this due to how the model was drawn? Or Could it be when the project is exported. I know in Autodesk Recap, when data is exported, it sometimes changes from feet to meters. Could this be the problem?

You are probably too far away from Revit's origin point....  If you get an error message that your model is 20 miles out....then you are building on shaky ground.

Maybe I'm underthinking this, but if it displays correctly when imported in meters, then why not import it in meters?

-Perhaps the Project Units in the Revit model is set to Meters?

You could try changing it to feet if you have access to the file, or as the  author to do so.

-I also suspect that the distance from the Project Base Point and/or Survey Point / Origin could be causing the distortion.

Some brain-teaser. So, when it's imported in meters, it's not too far away. But, when when it's imported in feet, it's too far away?  I don't think it's "distorted". It think it's scaled.  I guess that could mean it's further away.  A foot is about a third of a meter.  How am I doing?

I am waiting to here back from my Revit modeler what units it was created in. Hopefully it is as simple as being created in meters compared to feet. So the issue is when I import the model into ESRI ArcPro, whether or not my coordinate system is in meters or feet, it is placed in the wrong location - this is due to the Revit model being drawn without coordinates (this is not the issue). The issue is when I set my coordinate system to feet, my model is distorted while the scale remains accurate.

What about Acquiring the Coordinates from the Link and then Relocating the Project?

First of all, if you are not linking; you should be.  And, you should be setting up Shared Coordinates. 

That being said, I don't buy into the units theory.   I do buy into the theory that the distortion is because of distance from origin.  Revit has a 20 mile limit.  The way I understand it, is that you are bringing into one project coordinate system into another project coordinate system; either the building into the site or the site into the building.  If you are bringing the site into the building, then Link the site into the building, MOVE IT INTO THE CORRECT POSITION RELATIVE TO THE BUILDING, and Acquire Coordinates from the Link. If you're bringing the building into the site, then Link the building into the site, MOVE IT INTO THE CORRECT POSITION RELATIVE TO THE SITE,  and Publish Coordinates.

I think it was just ArcPro acting funky. I would bring it in with one coordinate system, change it, re-save it, re-download it, all that little stuff and it seemed to have fixed the problem.
