RVT 2022 - objects won't rotate

Just as it sounds, objects placed into a Revit model can not be rotated. (For example, a chair placed on a floor, then rotated into position)

There's no error displayed, the object simply just doesn't rotate after either graphically drawing the rotation angle or entering in the angle.

Objects aren't pinned or locked to some plane

Have tried creating new models

Have tried using different templates

wtf is going on here..

Fixed it...

by completely removed every trace of autodesk from this machine and reinstalling from scratch.

In the end I think it likely had to do with some corrupted library somewhere - maybe in an add-on.

What add-ons do you have?

Having the same issue and hoping I don't have to do the same thing to solve it...

Strangely, Revit still understands how to mirror.

This is definitely a bug. . I removed all add ons and started from scratch and I THOUGHT it was fixed but now is doing it again. This time I only have direct link for Twin Motion installed -- which wasn't installed on previous version.  I've also tried it in different projects/templates and get the same results.

Like you mentioned, the only solution i've found is to use DM (mirror). I've also found that rotating in 1/2 the degrees needed will sometimes work (if you need to rotate 90 degrees, try typing/drawing a 45 degree angle).

It's allowing me to rotate furniture, but not casework.

Yes, I've also had the 45 degrees = 90 experience.

I don't have TwinMotion, and I don't have any add-ins that I don't have in 2020 and 2021, where this issue does not occur. The perils of being pioneers...

I am having this same problem - now on multiple machines and install/re-install is not helping.  The only way I can rotate objects (furniture, sinks, toilets, etc.) is by using the align command.  For instance, if I want to rotate something 90 degrees, I have to select to something at an angle (say 45deg) then aligning again to something at the correct angle.  This is so frustrating.

I have the same problem starting yesterday on two different computers, first with a chair family in plan, now with an electrical receptacle in elevation (on a different computer). Any solutions. I have zero add-ons installed. RVT LT 2022.

When rotate, look at the Option ribbon > check Disjoin, uncheck Copy.

I had to uncheck 'Disjoin' to get it to work. But it works!

Thanks @ToanDN. I tried unchecking disjoin, but it did not work. I tried 45 degrees, it did not move. I tried align, but align tool will only pick edges parallel to the line I am aligning to. No luck so far.

Also have this insane issue.  The workaround I discovered though, is to GROUP the single component, then rotate, then ungroup.

Annoying extra step

Annoying extra step- but thank you so much! Working on my thesis project due one week from today and I am so glad I didn't have to re-install Revit on my laptop to hopefully get the rotation tool to work correctly. Appreciate the tip!

I have had this issue happen to me so many times over the past few years and only just found this annoying "disjoin" bug. I have never checked - or even clicked on - the disjoin box so I don't know how it got activated, but once it did, it broke the rotation on a lot of my families.

Prior to today, every time I've had the bug, my only reliable solution was to uninstall and reinstall. Which I did yesterday, and then the bug showed up again today. Frustrating doesn't even begin to describe it.

Hi,  I understand how frustrating and issue like this can be.  I'll be glad to help,

For the families which do not rotate:

  • What is the family category.
  • Are you trying to rotate in Plan, elevation or other view?
  • When editing the family in the family editor, Is "Always Vertical" checked?

If it is selected, does deselecting "Always Vertical" and reloading the family allow rotation?

If the "Always vertical" checkbox  is selected in a specific model's generic family, then the rotation of the family in various directions are locked. In the screenshot below notice that the axis of the family is not aligned with the orientation of the slab after the rotation.

If this does not help, Please post the family and a screenshot showing the view.  This would help understand the conditions where this is happening.
