RVT 2018.3 DOES NOT WORK ON VG ISSUES-LINKS-LINK VIEWS

Hi there,

We are working on Rvt2018.3 to use the cloud.

We have notices that the setting for VG when we add link views does not stay after sync.

It is not user undoing or similar, I tested on my own, save the setting adding view links from multiple files, sync, save, close (BIM360).

Open again the files and most of the view link were changed to By host view automatic.

Any thought, why it happens? We cannot do a project with this problem it is insane.

Your description is missing a lot of information. Please provide as much information as possible in order for us to narrow down the problem for you. Include screen shots of your settings and where you are doing them.

From what little you have provided, my guess is that the problem is procedural as this is not normal.

One thing that sticks out is that you say you are saving the settings and then linking. View settings for links cannot be set until they are inserted.

I appreciate you believe the problem it about process.

It is not the case I have been using Revit for 10 years, so it is not on my "Revit knowledge".

The problem highlighted is the same one the Rvt2016 had in the first version.

It is a basic thing on Revit.

All Revit links are linked in the Revit, (revit file with multiple files linked into it). File 1 contain linked File 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 as an example.

To produce drawing when you have multiple files linked it is a good practice to create views im file 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 to link in File 1 for consistency on drawings.

Once you have create the "Link Views": Views created in File 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 to link in File1, and you are sure you have reload all files2,3,5,6,7,8 through manager link to get the "Link Views" you are in a position to type VG or VV or press in visibility graphics. Once you are in visibility graphics you go to "Links" then you can click in a bottom on thr right of each one you chose: By host (File1), By link Views, Custome.

Going straight to the point you choose Link View, and select the view you want to get from other file 2,3,4,5,6,7,8. Once you are happy with that you save and the view in File1 will show the views linked from File2,3,4,5,6,7,8. So happy days.

If the software does not havr any bug about that, the setting of this view remind unless you alter anything manually, however here is where the Revit2018.3 has a bug. I sync and save and close file.

I open the file again, go to the view that I created before and added previously all the settings of link views from diferent files, so I should expect to see the same, however most of the views went back to By Host.

I hope it explain clear enough the problem.

Sorry, I don't use by linked view as a rule. Do you see the same behavior if you save your VG settings to a template?

Template does not solve the problem unfortunately it just change automatic to by host.

Even if template solve the problem (which is not tbe case), you will end up creating hundreds of template depending on view, phase, scenarios.

Not me. I use view templates to control multiple views. Frankly I don't see how your workflow ensures consistency but that doesn't matter except for the fact that you keep saying "you". That workflow would create a lot of unnecessary work in my world.

We use template mate, just with 200 models you need to use link views as view range for specific object need to be alter depending on models/element ad Revit does not work perfectly cutting generic models as an example, etc and in most scenarios you cannot have this part tick in your template unfortunately to freeze the link views.

Tha fact is Revit 2018.3 has this problem.

This isn't about using or not using view templates. You already established that. In your unnecessarily lengthy explanation you said what you do is good practice and then went on to say how I should use it. I only point it out because that workflow is not recommended in my world. 

Back to your issue please. Are you using synch now or checking your settings to make sure user created worksets is checked?

It has been reported as a bug to Autodesk.

I am looking for Autodesk to check as well as to see other users comment with similar problem as I could not find a pattern if it is because of the cloud, just because of revit version or because of the number of Model linked into a file or if other software are making Rvt2018.3 to not work properly yet.

It has been added/reported in BIM360 as well.

Looking for solution as we are producing a Add-on to record each link view setting per view and every time we need to print drawings we run it to make the setting (links from VG) per view to come back, however this solution should be a temporary one, so looking for other options, ideas, opinions from users or Autodesk who has a similar problem to help to solve this issue.

If it has been reported to Autodesk as a possible bug, they will then either confirm or deny it as a bug. You really should have said what you just said in your first post. I would have assumed that you have done extensive trouble shooting and not wasted my time trying to help you with what I still think is a procedural issue.

I cannot go to lower version of Revit being in Rvt2018.3.

Version below with other projects works, as mentioned in previous email the first version of Rvt2016 got a similar problem.

I potentially consider to jump to Rvt 2019, however the quantity of model we have and thr complexity of geometry and so on and the early stage of Revit 2019 will stop me to consider this option at this moment of time.

Just having problem with Rvt2018.3.

We have the knowledge to create our own Add-on, but in this case is just to solve the issue mentioned which may or may other users have.

To solve the problem we are having with Rvt2018.3 on the cloud we have that, but as mentioned it is a temporary solution as ideally it should work as other Revit versions.

I tried to add as much information as I could as you requested to describe the process and the issue, then you mentioned it was unnecessary, then I am wasting your time (but you carry on spending time on this post or trying to help me) now you mentioned it is confused.

In my humble opinion it would be a good idea to let other users/Autodesk to share their ideas/comments if possible.

Can you confirm that the views that you are referencing with the "By Linked View" setting still exist in the linked models after reopening the project?
