Rotation paramater can't go past 180 degrees

I'm trying to make a simple family that can rotate, but I can't get the rotation parameter to work. When I setup the reference plane with the dimension it works fine, but the moment I add the label to the dimension I can't rotate it above 180 degrees anymore. I want it to be able to rotate up to at least 355 degrees (359 would be even better). I've attached the family, does anyone know what's happening here?

Hello @ryley.harris ,

It works on my computer (using Revit 2022). What issue are your having exactly ? Could you post a picture of the problem or of the error message ?

That's annoying, it doesn't work on 2020.2.5.

You're right, I tried it on Revit 2020.1 and I have the same error.

It's even weirder because I recreated the family in 2018.3 and it worked but it didn't worked in 2019.2. I do not have 2021 installed but it seems to be an issue with the Revit version and that was probably fixed in 2022 (or 2021 maybe).

I do not have 2020 to check but I believe this behavior was limited to the family environment. It will not effect the rotation functionality of the family in project environment. If you want to work around that behavior, dimension the rotating Reference line to a horizontal reference line rather than a plane.

Rotation parameters in families are temperamental and prone to breaking depending on the range, particularly when you want other parameters and reference planes to follow.

I would suggest you look at the Marcello Sgambelluri blog posts on Simply Complexe and use an embedded family as a "Rotation Rig":

An addition benefit to this method is that the center of rotation need not be based on the intersection of the main reference planes.

Hope this helps,

You do realize that the methods and links you posted are not applicable to the OP?

  1. two of the 3 methods from Marcelo do not work in Generic Annotation family
  2. The third method using arcs does not work for angles greater than 180

Effectively, the term "label" should have struck a bell but you have to admit, the title and text of the OP doesn't make it obvious that he was dealing with an annotation family.

Here's another method for handling rotations in annotations:

Topic is being over complicated...it is pretty much simple refer to reply 5... Behavior does not affect the functionality of the family in Project environment...IF it is that much irritating user can simply dimension to 2 reference line rather than a reference line and a plane...see below demo in 2020.

Rotations are predictable and do not break ... that also has been fixed long time back.
