It is easier with a work plane based family because you can choose to host it on a face or a named reference plane in project, which can be tilted however you need. So, you can place the same painting on a vertical wall, a floor, a ceiling, a sloped roof, a sphere, and any named reference plane.
Now if you want to do an in place family, follow the steps below:
- draw a reference plane on plan parallel to the wall, name it "painting"
- start an in-place model, give a entourage or furniture or any category that you would like
- start sweep, set the work plane using the Set button on the ribbon, choose "paint" reference plane from the list
- draw the path, a rectangle the WxH of the frame, finish path
- pick profile from what you already have and finish the sweep, now you have the frame
- start an extrusion, again, set work plane the same as the above step, sketch the boundary and lock the lines to the inside edges of the sweep frame, finish the extrusion, it will be the canvas
- finish the in place model
- place the decal on the canvas
- go to a side section and rotate the "paint" reference plane and the frame and the painting will follow
