Rotate function does not work

I can rotate some objects but not all objects rotate.  For example, I cant rotate the toilet or Dryer but I can rotate a pedestal sink or a wall.  What's the problem?

Depends on the family, if it‘s a wall based family it won’t rotate unless the wall is rotated.

sometimes the families are constrained to a level/ plane and you need to unconstrained them (check the checkbox, otherwise copy/ paste and try again).

It also depends on plane where you want to rotate an element (XZ plane). Some categories can not be rotated, but some can.

Does Spacebar Rotate work for you?  

...select element and press spacebar.  

....also, if using Rotate tool, verify that no constraints aren't active on the Option Bar.

Might be that new "disjoin" check box. Possibly one of the most obnoxious additions.

While this method works.  Apparently when a toilet is placed and if it doesn't get hosted to the Level, it wont rotate without checking off the disjoin tool.  

My thinking is that this is some sort of glitch.  The toilet should be able to rotate whatever it's hosted to.

"Doesn't get hosted to the Level"?  Huh? Are you saying it's a Work Plane-Based Family?  What's the toilet's "Work Plane" Property read in the Project?

I dont know.  I'm just a student learning all this.   I'm pretty sure no architect will care to know the details of this.  I just think a toilet needs to be able to rotate whether it's hosted to a level or another object without the extra step of disjoin.  Maybe the programmer's have a reason they had to make this tool in this way, but hopefully there can be a more user friendly way of designing Revit.

Beyond that, you came here asking for an explanation, and I was going to provide one. If you just want to blame the software as being glitchy and unfriendly and move on, then so be it.

Sorry, if I offended you.  I wasn't trying to blame anyone.  Since this is an AutoDesk forum, I thought this issue would be something AutoDesk would want to know about so that they can improve the software program.

And yes, I'm pretty sure most architects will not care to know the details if a minor rotate function.  They have too much to deal with in comparison to a dozen other issues they are dealing with.  I'm working for one right now so I have some idea.

Its not an issue. The items you mentioned in your initial post are wall mounted OOTB. You can't have a toilet floating in the middle of a room. It has to be on a wall. The easiest way to move it to a new wall is to just delete it and place another one where you want it.

And architects working in Revit should certainly want to understand how it works. The one's that don't and just come on here and complain are going to have a hard time keeping up over the coming years. The idea of something being hosted to a wall is not complicated, and is based on how those items function in the real world.
