Hi,
I got a problem with Revit 14' calculating room area;
When you insert a room: Architechture -> Room, and you tag the room to get the area etc.
But its boundary is at the finish wall interior,
my problem is that i got a window which has the same sill height as the floor finish,
so i want to get the >green area< (picture) into the room area.
How do i solve it?
Regards,
Henrik
Room Areas are calculated referenced to Hosts not Hosted elements...as you can see in the bottom image -detail A
A curtain wall, if it is Embeded (hosted ) into another Wall (host), it will be not a border for room ( the host wall will be)
In detail B, I 've Split the host wall into two pieces and the curtain wall became itself a host and it is , now, a room bounding
In my opinion ,what you want , can be done using a trick:
Usualy, in practice, Room Calculation are made by Standards, so there is no need for such tricks
Here are some examples:

Thanks for the reply and the trick
which can be done but it's not a smart way to do it,
cause what happens when you move a window or inserting a new one,
then you have to adjust the room bounding lines..
yes, it can be done,
but a bit annoying if you are working with a 12 story building.......
There must be a better way to do it..
Using Revit 2016.
Dear Mr. Constantin.stroescu
My issue is quite similar to what you have answered in this post.
Model Construction:
I have several rooms where window sill height is as same as floor finishes. So I have used Curtain wall system to model them in a wall of 25cm in width. The curtain of 10cm is fitted from outer side and thus 15cm of space is available inner side or to the side of a room.
Issue:
Space along the window is only calculated when the curtain distance from an inner side of the wall less than 11cm and when I make it 15cm then Revit consider the finished face of the wall.
I have 2 such model of around 30 storeys and doing the work manually won't be a solution what I desired to do.
Area 1: Curtain center line distance from the inner side of a wall is less than 11cm
Refer to Image Window area included.png
Area 2: Curtain center line distance from the inner side of a wall is 15cm
Refer to Image Window area not included.png
Many thanks for your response.
Note: The attached image are developed from a sample model identical to the model and slightly a larger side window has been used in order to show the meaningful changes in the area of the room.
What you could do is split the thick walls at each end of each window, change the width of the sill walls to the same as the depth of the window frame. Finally, add a furring wall over the window as a soffit.
Revit 2017 file attached for your convenience.
Thanks for your quick response.
I actually tried this way on 1 floor already. But the issue is that it will still cost a lot of amount of work and we are looking for the reason why Revit is not considering the curtain grid line. Or maybe there is still some way or certain option that needs to be checked-in to tell Revit to pick curtain grid in case the curtain is correctly embedded in the wall with the same base offset as the base set of the Wall (here the finish surface of the floor).
It will be great if someone further guide in this regard.
Below is the outcome from my own experiment:
A room detects the nearest centerlines of the applicable boundaries elements (walls, curtainwalls, separation lines) and define these very elements the boundary of the room. The fact that a room itself only extends to the finish lines of the room boundary elements has mislead us to assume that the finish lines are the detectable factor. They are not. The centerlines are.
This snapshot #1 shows a thick wall and a curtain wall falling outside of the wall centerline. As the result, the room ignore the curtain wall because of that.
In this snapshot #2, I moved the curtain wall inward so that it falls inside of the wall centerline. Now, the room is recognizing a nearer applicable room boundary centerline, and use its interior line as a new room boundary.
So, for the time being, I don't know any other solutions other than what @constantin.stroescu had proposed, and what I had shown in the previous post. But good luck and please post when you can find a better one.
Thanks ToanDN for your response.
Thanks for an explanation that how Revit considering the room boundary line.
I will update you if we find some quick solution of this issue.
